Second component of the Hapag-Asa Integrated Nutrition Program is the education classes for the parents of the children included in the feeding. This is aimed primarily at sustaining the gains of the feeding program. The topics included in the education classes are (1) Affective Parenting, (2) Health and Nutrition, (3) Responsible Parenthood and Values and (4) Livelihood. The education classes more known as Parents' Class (formerly Mothers' Class) are conducted by resource speakers whom the the different implementing parishes tap. For church-based partners, topic on affective parenting and responsible parenthood and values are usually being conducted by the catechists or even by the parish priests themselves. As for the Health and Nutrition, Barangay Health Workers or Nutrition Scholars give basic classes. As for livelihood, other local resource speakers are also tapped to conduct classes. The classes are done either every feeding day at an hour duration or once a week for at least 3 hours, depending on the agreed schedule of the parents, volunteers and resource speaker. To ensure conduct of the education classes, different modules of implementing dioceses and other partners were reviewed and compiled to come up with the standardized education modules for Hapag-Asa. Topics are trimmed down to the most basic information which can provide the parents with enough knowledge and skills on how to properly care for their children. Below are the education modules prepared which can be used by partners in their parents' classes and for other educational classes possible. 3. Responsible Parenthood and Values 4. Livelihood |
